About the Surgery

Firs House Surgery has approximately 12756 patients with its main site on Station Road, Histon and a branch site situated at 42 Telegraph Street, Cottenham. Patients are able to attend either site. Our staff work across both. We have 5 GP partners and a further 5 GP’s who are employed by the practice. We are also a training practice and have currently got 2 GP registrars working with us. 4 GP triages all appointment requests to get the patient to the appropriate clinician at the first appointment which ensures our appointments are used optimally and to ensure the patient journey and care is streamlined, where possible.

We review statistics all the time and try to ensure we are working in the most efficient way possible that is safe for both staff and patients. Our March 25 data is below:

During 2024 we provided 70,412 appointments, an average of 5.5 appointments per patient.

Top challenges you can help with:

-Where possible use online services to order prescriptions, do not call to order over the telephone.
-If you no longer need your appointment, please cancel.
-Use the picture to the right to know which service to contact for your symptoms
-Please understand that we will help as many people as we can but we only have a certain number of appointments each day and a simple call from the doctor is still an appointment.
-If our waiting room isn’t full it doesn’t mean we are not busy. It means that our clinicians are running to time and shouldn’t keep you waiting long

What has gone well over the last 12 months?

-We introduced a call back system on the phones to alleviate call waiting times.
-We are working on reducing the routine appointment wait time – this is currently at 5 weeks down from nearly 8 weeks in March 2024
-Reduced time from GP appointment to referral to other organisations being made to same week
